The gemstones that are in the pendants are different shapes, sizes and types of gemstones. Each gemstone is chosen for affordability and uniqueness; always keeping quality a priority. Gemstone pendants are created with beads, cabochons; calibrated or freeform, or faceted gems. Each pendant's description page will indicate what type of gemstone base was used.

The sterling silver wire is .925 silver and 7% of another metal alloy, usually copper, to give it more strength. Copper is was causes the silver to tarnish, which can be polished away. Some pendants are made with a new kind of sterling silver called Argentium. Argentium Sterling Silver adds germanium instead of copper as an alloy. Germanium provides high tarnish resistance so the wire does not have to be polished as often. The cost of Argentium sterling silver is slightly more than traditional sterling silver. Eventually, all sterling silver pendants made by Talitha Gems will be made with Argentium sterling silver to provide customers with high quality wire that is low maintenance.

The gold wire used is 14 kt gold filled. Gold filled wire has a base of an alloy metal, usually brass. The gold is then bonded in several layers to the base metal by heating and rolling or drawing the metal to the desired thickness. 14kt gold filled wire must have 14kts of gold. The gold in gold filled wire will not flake, peel, or wear off. Gold filled wire is not electroplated gold wire. Electroplated gold wire is not as durable as gold filled and does have a tendency to flake, peel and wear off.

The copper wire used is always pure copper metal. The copper is a natural color unless otherwise indicated. Natural copper can and probably will turn your skin green; which is easily washed off with soap and water. This is a natural occurence due to the chemicals secreted in perspiration. Copper actually has anti microbial properties. Copper, when exposed to oxygen, will turn a dark patina color unless treated. Unless otherwise indicated, copper jewelry found at Talitha Gems is all natural, with no treatment applied.
Some copper wire used is enameled with color; which can be scratched by a sharp object. Colored copper wire is best used in pendants where there is less danger of damage.
